NAINITAL:

At an altitude of 1938m in the Central Himalayas of the Kumaon region- Nainital has earned the epithet of Lake District of India. The lake is surrounded by seven hills(Sapt-Shring) prominent of the lakes is Naini Lake. Legend ofShiva & Sati associates this place as where Sati eyes (Naina) fell and hence named after the Goddess Naini. The main road The Mall lies between the lakes, Tallital at its south and lakes head Malital to the northwest. The bus stand & hotels are along Mallital. The nucleus of Nainitals exquisite beauty is her lake which is a haven for water sports.

Naina Peak: The Naina/China peak is 2.5 hrs walk, 5km from the Naini Lake. There are stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and the snow clad Nanda Devi. One can either trek or go on horse back. There is ropeway which runs from the Mallital end of the lake to Snow View peak (2270m), a popular vontage point offering a panoramic view of 250km of the Himalayan ranges through a binocular telescope fixed here.

Dorothy Seat: A four km walk, 1.5 hour to the west of the lake brings one to Dorothy seat also known as Tiffin Top- is a memorial to Mrs. Dorothy Kellet built by her husband.

Lands End: From Dorothy seat it is a lovely 45 minutes walk to Lands End through a forest of Oak, Deodar and Pine. One feels on reaching the area that the end of the land has really come. From Lands End there are five views out over the lake of Khurpatal. It is easily accessible by horse also.

Kilbury: It is an ideal place for a quiet weekend holiday & picnic spot known for sunset. It is a part of a forest reserve and is rich in flora & birdlife.

Raj-Bhawan- The foundation stone of the Naini Tal Government House , modelled after Buckingham Palace, was laid on April 27, 1897 and the building was completed in March 1900. The architecture of Raj Bhawan has been professionally described as of "the early domestic gothic style". The house stands upon a plateau, and the combined effect of its environs the vividly green lawn, grey stone steps and well groun old deodar trees is dignified of English countryside.

The Raj Bhawan has a rich collection of 19th and 20th Century weapons like lances, swords, muzzle loaders etc., including weapons seized from the legendary Sultana Daku, Elephant Tusks and other trophies and collection of Medals and antique furniture.
